Daran - Le Monde Perdu
How to wrap yourself in a record
So Daran plays solo guitar-voice-harmonica? Those who only like the rock music side of the figure will be disappointed. With this "lost world", he risks losing some people. On the other hand, those who like his acoustic fringe too and the quality French chanson, will love it. It’s my case.
This formula obviously highlights the lyrics. When they’re good, it’s absolutely touching. I like what Daran tells me, whispers in my ears too.
For it’s an intimate album. Gentle and smooth. Perfect for winter. You’ll be able to wrap yourself into.
Sublime sleeve. And the design of the booklet is in accord.
Overall, it’s magnificently sung – even more than usual.
From start, the guitar small drop of "Gens du Voyage" stays in your head. The picture is outlined well. In 2014, it feels good to take up this topic.
"Gentil" may be the liveliest track of the album. Which just goes to show. A new portrait of a poor guy. You find lost souls like this again all along the album (but you were warned, hey! you are in Le monde perdu - the lost world).
As it happens, with the song "Le Monde Perdu" come the first tears of the album. When the slide guitar enters, it’s fated. And so good.
The tracks come one after another more or less luckily, from the very beautiful lalalala with 2 voices in "Des Portes", until "Une Sorte d'Église" in this pared-down version which matches very well the atmosphere of the album.
Well-made lyrics. Special mention to “Comfort contains its opposite” and to “Love ends up as tragedy or pot-au-feu”. You’re not there for fun.
Harmonica is everywhere and this is getting much to me, especially when ending with a lacklustre "Le Bal des Poulets".
As a conclusion, I’m going to stop listening to Daran: far too much joyful for me. I’m going to go back to real depressive music like David Guetta’s. At least he never plays solo guitar-voice-harmonica.

52 minutes and no time to get bored when you’re able to listen. Each song is consistent, full, perfectly measured in its length: neither too short nor too long (except maybe a little at the end of the record).
