Mazingo - Hey You
A-mazing oh!
Do you like music when it's completely, absolutely new and doesn't sound like anything we've ever heard? Or do you like it when it resembles a lot of things we already know, that it achieves a kind of synthesis of them, thereby possibly creating its own style? It depends on the case. Mazingo is immediately placed in the 2nd category, undoubtedly.
Indeed, what can there be in common between Dire Straits and Delgres? Answer: Mazingo. Where we happily go from one ("Can't Do Right", "City Never Sleeps") to the other ("Funambule"), but also – more often than not – to the mix of the 2.
Between the Stones and Willy DeVille? Answer: Mazingo. The "well it's aaaaaalright" of "Can't Do Right" is reminiscent of "Jumping Jack Flash", while the Latin-blues side can be felt in "The Run".
Between Springsteen and Dead Chic? Answer: Mazingo. Because the origin of this music is above all American: the singer-double bassist Andrew Mazingue is himself from Ohio. And when his voice growls, you can think of Andy Balcon, singer of Dead Chic, whose 1st album is eagerly awaited, hopefully will not disappoint.
In terms of voice, let's note that Andrew passes the microphone 2 times to guitarist Alexis, the time of 2 tracks in French which bring a little variation in a fairly homogeneous album.
On the instrument side, a very present banjo, a frenetic harmonica ("Hey You"), a demonic organ ("One Poor Teardrop"), a slide guitar volley ("Six Pieds Sous Terre") or a Stylophone solo ("Can't Do Right" again) are the remarkable points of this 2nd album of the Parisian trio.
It took all this for a synthesis to become an own style.

Not much to say in this sectrion for once. The album is rather well calibrated, neither too long nor too short, with its tracks centered around 3 and a half minutes.
2 tracks stay under 3 minutes ("One Poor Teardrop" and "Gone to Stay"), which makes them particularly hard-hitting.
4 tracks exceed 4 minutes, but by a small margin. -
