I shouldn’t. I know I might bore you, if I talk to you of Sophie Zelmani again, if I describe all that affects me in her songs, whereas you might remain impassive, finding it sweet and not much else. Haven’t I already said everything at the release of My Song, her previous album? Her albums look so much alike, seem to use always a bit the same recipes, that I almost could say the same thing again. No really, I shouldn’t.
And yet...

Yet it’s such a hug for your ears, such comfort for your soul, such an ointment for your heart, such an elixir for your sleep. Or, in this case, to get out of it very softly, since it’s called Sunrise.

Yet "Only a Miracle", the aptly named single, with its heady flute tunes and its rhythm breaks, seemed to announce a rousing and renewed album. That’s eventually not the case, the album rather giving rise to reverie ("Mirage") and nostalgia, or calming down. As usual. Whatever, I won’t get tired of listening this track again, which I consider one of her most well-down ones.

Yet the eponymous "Sunrise", which urges somebody unhappy in couple to a new life, appeals to me like a good old Taï Phong sweet slow dance, whereas the soft swing of "Giving God a Plan", like the Swedish’s older tracks before, inescapably picks me up.

Yet her arrangements, mostly acoustic guitar and piano, for want of big inventiveness, are woven with rare delicacy, precision, subtlety and accuracy. The singer-songwriter’s voice sneaks inside with a great deal of restraint, which perfectly suits the simplicity of the lyrics and the general intimacy of the record, once again produced by guitarist Lars Halapi.

So maybe I shouldn’t... But I hope all the same again that you’ll be touched by Sophie like I am.

  • 32 minutes are really far too short! The tracks last between 2:45 and 4:43, which is correct, but why only 9!!??? You’d even almost hesitate to spend around 20 € (as import product) for so little. In fact, Sophie had planned a 10th song... which just couldn’t come good.
