They Call Me Rico - Wheel of Love
From wheel to will
It’s the kind of albums you love a little more each time you listen to.
Tough ("You Done Me Wrong", "Wheel of Love") and sturdy: the verses of "Ease my Mind" are common, but as soon as the chorus begins I start to walk with a firm step and remember why I like this song. From this moment, all that follows delights me! (And I come back to what precedes too.)
Either a very Black Keys riff ("This Old Dog"), or some Midnight Oil signs ("Please Don't Go"), or a piano intro ("Don't Let it Get You Down") which reminds me of... "Saudade" by Étienne Daho, whereas the rest of the piece is more Rolling Stones.
So, as you’ve understood, this is very roots blues-rock, very guitar-ish, with good solos ("Sorry if I Kept You Waiting"), where the drums often wait for the 2nd verse to show up, and where the harmonica can rear its head too. All of that is played nearly entirely by Rico as a one-man-band.
I note the small defects I had identified in the production of the previous album have completely disappeared.
The lyrics speak of love with all its turbulences, ups and downs, from tempest to cooling down, from abandonment to forgiveness, from weariness to hope.
The love of this music, on the other hand, keeps growing: a little more each time you listen to.

The album opens with a long-haul "You Done Me Wrong", its musical background whirring on the waves (hello didgeridoo) enables the coming of little additional sounds which capture your attention for more than 6 minutes. That’s beautiful work.
